Dr. (Mrs.) Joy Anyo Egbunu was born on 6th May 1966 in Idah Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria, to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Ali Stephen Ugbedani. She attended Quaibo Primary School, Unalelabaji, Kogi State, and Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Idah.
She obtained a Diploma in Nursing from the FCT School of Nursing (1984β1987), where she graduated as the best student in her set. She later earned a Diploma in Midwifery from the School of Midwifery, Minna (1988β1989), again graduating as the best student in her class.
Driven by her passion for professional development, she obtained a Diploma in Critical Care Nursing from the School of Post Basic Critical Care Nursing, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH), Bachelor of Nursing Science (BN.Sc.) from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), a Higher National Diploma in Public Health Nursing, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), a Master of Nursing Science in Public Health Nursing, a Postgraduate Diploma in Theology from Missionsville International, Abuja, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Nursing (Public Health Nursing).
She is married to Mr. David Faruk Egbunu and is blessed with three biological sons, two grandsons and two other sons under her care.
